Ivan Camarena is a 25-year-old film photographer from Salinas, California. Raised in a low-income community, he developed a creative perspective rooted in resourcefulness and observation. Through curiosity and persistence, he taught himself photography using an old film camera, learning through trial, patience, and long walks with a camera in hand. The streets of East Salinas became his classroom, shaping the way he sees light, people, and everyday moments with honesty. Film photography became his language—slow, intentional, imperfect, and real—allowing him to document the world as he experiences it.His work explores themes of memory, place, and identity, drawing from both the neighborhoods that raised him and the places that continue to shape his understanding of belonging. Through traveling and exploring new environments, his photography becomes a way of learning—observing different ways of life, cultures, and everyday rhythms. Each image reflects an ongoing process of understanding the world, using photography as a tool to study life as it unfolds across different places. For inquiries or collaborations:
